The Edmonton Oilers and prospect Skyler Brind'amour have recently announced their mutual agreement to part ways. The situation came as a surprise to many, as Brind'amour was considered a promising prospect for the Oilers.
However, with the team's depth, it was speculated that he may not have had a chance to join the roster for several years.
It has since been revealed that Brind'amour had already planned to leave the Oilers organization and join the Charlotte Checkers, the AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes. This decision makes sense considering that Brind'amour's father, Rod Brind'amour, is the head coach of the Hurricanes. While it is unfortunate that the Oilers will not be able to benefit from Brind'amour's talents, we wish him all the best in his future endeavors with the Checkers.
The Checkers have signed Skyler Brind'Amour to a two-year AHL contract starting next season
