Now that the Oilers have secured their playoff spot, their focus shifts to finishing out the regular season strong, with the anticipation of a whole new season beginning in just a few weeks. It's a crucial first step towards the ultimate goal of winning the coveted Stanley Cup, but the journey is long, with four rounds to navigate.
It's worth noting that this scenario assumes that the standings remain the same, but according to Lights Out Hockey, if the season were to end today, the Oilers would face off against the up-and-coming Kings in the first round.
The Kings possess quickness, skill, and firepower, much like the Oilers, but Edmonton boasts more scoring options and could pose problems for the Kings in a matchup game.
As always, goaltending will be a crucial factor in the first round. It remains to be seen whether Jack Campbell or Stuart Skinner can step up and carry the team forward.
With five games left in the regular season, the Oilers have a chance to push hard and potentially secure home-ice advantage or even first place in the Pacific division, as they trail Vegas by just two points. It's all to play for as the playoffs loom.
