Another massive trade rumor has emerged today regarding Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Timothy Liljegren.

The trade rumour mill has been electrifying today as the discussion regarding Evander Kane's LTIR status continues to intensify. The latest trade rumor links Toronto Maple Leafs blue-liner Timothy Liljegren to the Edmonton Oilers.

As per NHL Trade Rumor, Speculation is mounting that the Leafs are exploring a trade involving defenseman Timothy Liljegren, potentially sending him to Edmonton in exchange for a 2025 third-round draft pick.

The Maple Leafs are currently facing a tight salary cap situation as they look to finalize their roster for the upcoming season. With recent PTO signings of Max Pacioretty and Steven Lorentz, the Leafs need to create some financial breathing room. Trading Liljegren, who carries a $3 million cap hit, would provide the necessary relief to accommodate these additions.

On the other side of the equation, the Edmonton Oilers have a pressing need for a right-handed defenseman. With Evander Kane sidelined on long-term injured reserve (LTIR), the Oilers have the cap flexibility to absorb Liljegren's contract. Acquiring the Swedish defenseman would bolster their defensive corps and provide valuable depth on the right side.

ESPN has also recently linked Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Seth Jones to the Edmonton Oilers as Kane's LTIR status would mean an inevitable trade at some point for GM Stan Bowman.
