The Edmonton Oilers suffered a disastrous game against the Columbus Blue Jackets - losing 6-1, and losing their best player on the team.

According to TSN, Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid suffered a lower-body injury in the first period of Monday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and did not return.

TSN's Ryan Rishaug reported that the initial word out of Columbus was that the injury wasn't too serious but head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters that McDavid will be travelling back to Edmonton to get re-evaluated

Oilers Daily's Liam McCormick reports that on the television broadcast tonight, Oilers insider Bob Stauffer mentioned that the injury may be a high ankle sprain. Those types of injuries can vary significantly from Grade 1 to Grade 3, missing anywhere from one week to several months. It will all depend on if there is any structural damage to McDavid's ankle, which will be determined by the Oilers tests in the next few days.

This is terrible news for the Oilers. The team has been extremely inconsistent to start the 2024-25 campaign, and losing their captain and best player for an indefinite amount of time could prove to be a worst case scenario possible. The Oilers will now look to Leon Draisaitl to carry the load for the Oilers squad, a challenge he's proved capable of taking on in the past.

Hopefully the Oilers receive the best possible news from medical tests, and it's just a week long injury for McDavid. Oilers Insider will be keeping close tabs to provide updates on the situation.
