Its no secret that Leon Draisaitl just signed a monster contract extension for $14 MM AAV per season.

With that being said, Connor McDavid is et to re-sign in 2025. With the announcement of Leon Draisaitl's contract extension, all eyes are now on Connor McDavid to follow suit. Geoff Hannah from NHL Trade Rumor had a great take on the subject:

McDavid's comfort in Edmonton is palpable. The Oilers organization has built a strong team around him, and the city's passionate fanbase provides unwavering support. While the allure of playing for the Leafs is understandable, McDavid's commitment to building a legacy in Edmonton is becoming increasingly clear.

Furthermore, the Oilers' recent success can't be ignored. They've made significant strides in the playoffs, and with McDavid at the helm, they're poised to contend for the Stanley Cup for years to come. Winning is a powerful motivator, and the chance to hoist the Cup in Edmonton could be the deciding factor for McDavid.

Of course, anything can happen in the NHL. But as we analyze McDavid's words and observe the Oilers' trajectory, the signs point to him staying put. Edmonton has become more than just a hockey city for McDavid; it's become his home. And in the end, that sense of belonging might just outweigh the pull of the bright lights of Toronto.

Although the Toronto fanbase would love to see McDavid join the Maple Leafs, it appears that Connor McDavid is only interested in hoisting the Stanley Cup in Edmonton.
