Daily Faceoff ranks Oilers goalie tandem
Daily Faceoff, a highly reputable online hockey resource has recently ranked the NHL's best to worst goalie tandems.
Daily Faceoff came out with their goaltending tandem rankings, and the Oilers have ranked 17th on the NHL. This ranking is somewhat surprising for Oilers enthusiasts, as Calvin Pickard and Stuart Skinner took the Oilers all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last season. Pickard also had some impressive showings in the post season, but Daily Faceoff ranks the Oilers Duo just below average.
As per daily faceoff, I wouldn't call myself the world's biggest Skinner Stan. Save percentages by month last year: .863, .888, .915, .953, .887, .917, .893. By playoff round: .910, .833, .922, 909. The human roulette wheel may be the game's least consistent starting goalie. That said: he was still good enough, most of the time, to help Edmonton reach Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
When he's on his game, he's quite good. Pickard was also pretty solid behind him last season, going 12-7-1 with a .909 SV%. So while I don't consider goaltending a feature for Edmonton, it's not a bug, either. It can't be if it was good enough to get you within one victory of a championship.
Daily faceoff ranked the New York Islanders in first place, New York Rangers in second, Nasville Predators in third, Winnipeg Jets in fourth, and the Dallas Stars in 5th.
In dead last comes the Philadelphia Flyers who would have ranked higher with Carter Hart on the team, but his career has come to an abrupt standstill.
