As Oilers fans await the debut of the highly anticipated regular seasons, newcomer Ty Emberson has some massive shoes to fill.

The Oilers landed Emberson from the San Jose Sharks in an exchange for Cody Ceci. The Oilers also find themselves with a shrunken defensive core regarding the departure of Vincent Desharnais and Philip Broberg.

Bob Stauffer came out with a bold prediction on X (formally known as twitter). He believes that Emberson will be a "lock" to be a starter on the Oilers blue-line and will also have an opportunity on the power-play.

With that being said, the expectations have been laid out for young Ty Emberson.

According to Jim Parsons of NHL Trade Talk, Oilers Just Need Emberson to Limit Mistakes Emberson's focus won't be on point production-he's unlikely to see power play time and won't be asked to carry an offensive load. Instead, the Oilers need him to be steady, physical, and reliable, especially on the penalty kill and in five-on-five situations. Nobody will be perfect, but the less he's noticed, the better.

«I think I just want to contribute in the ways that maybe won't go as noticed,» Emberson shared as he began his first training camp with the Oilers. If he can deliver on that personal goal, he could prove to be a valuable addition as the team aims for a deep playoff run this season.

Ty Emberson has been considered the top candidate to play alongside Darnell Nurse on the Oilers second defensive pairing. Although Emberson only has roughly 30 NHL games under his belt, the opportunity is there for the taking.
