It was announced earlier today that Leon Draisaitl signed an 8 year contract extension. The deal will carry an average annual value of $14 million for Draisaitl, who was entering the final season of his deal at a cap hit of $8.5 million.
Jason Gregor, a former radio host on TSN 1260 and a prominent Oilers insider has given fans an exciting update on X (formally known as twitter) on comments made by Leon following the bombshell announcement.
Jason Gregor reports that Leon Draisaitl feels extremely proud to be returning to the City of Champions. Leon feels proud to wear the jersey every day and hopes to remain and Oiler for life. Gregor also reports that there were no major hiccups during contract negotiations.
Draisaitl also touched on Connor McDavid during his interview. Leon alluded on his future with Connor and provided fans some insight into what captain Connor could be thinking looking ahead to his contract extension in 2025-26.
Draisaitl admits that he has spoken to Connor McDavid concerning his future in Edmonton. He hopes that him and Connor will remain teammates for the foreseeable future. Leon re-signing with the team for the next eight seasons will certainly have positive implications for McDavid moving forward.
