Spector hasn't been impressed with the Oilers preseason so far. He calls out the Edmonton Oilers for looking poor last night against the Vancouver Canucks, including most of the preseason. He believes that a team as elite as the Edmonton Oilers will be starting their season "under a cloud of doubt", while being nowhere good enough with the regular season just a few days away.
According to Mark Spector, in their eighth pre-season game, the Oilers lacked finish, had a disjointed power play, defended no better than OK, and generally looked like a team playing to about 50 or 60 per cent of its potential. None of their lines were overtly dangerous, and as pre-season closes the Oilers have been outscored 36-18, giving up four goals or more in six of their eight efforts.
Spector has been known to be extremely critical of the Edmonton Oilers, often getting under the skin of players during interviews and media availability with his provoking style of questioning. With that being said, I do have to agree with some of his points.
The Oilers dressed their projected starting roster against the Seattle Kraken and the Vancouver Canucks to close out the NHL preseason - and the Oil have been looking rather sleepy. At the same time, it's the preseason, so who really cares? I'm rather confident the Oilers will tidy up certain aspects of their game before the home opener on Oct. 9th against the Jets.
