Woodcroft showed so much promise in the Canadian north at one point. Being the successor to former head coach Todd McLellan, Jay did a respectable job as the Oilers bench boss during his short tenure. After the Oilers got off to an abysmal start last season, GM Ken Holland fired Woodcroft, bringing in Kris Knoblauch in his stead.
Although Woodcroft stole the hearts on Oilers enthusiasts, his dismissal was understandable. In a sudden twist off events, Jay Woodcroft has been spotted in Philadelphia as an honorary invitee by head coach John Tortorella.
According to Daily Hive, The bench boss has been invited by John Tortorella to attend Philadelphia Flyers training camp as a special guest per Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli. The experience is a chance for Woodcroft to sharpen his coaching skills as he awaits another opportunity at the highest level.
Oilers Insider is awaiting further updates pertaining an official announcement regarding Woodcroft being hired by the Flyers. But as it stands, Woodcroft has teamed up with Tortorella for the Flyers training camp.
