As it stand, the Edmonton Oilers are a perfect 5-0 when dropping the gloves. Although it's somewhat of an unusual statistic, the Edmonton Oilers seem to play with some extra juice when the boys get scrappy. In a pregame interview, Kris Knoblauch spoke to the strange trend that seems to give the Oilers the winning touch.
The Edmonton Oilers have been blessed with some spirited tilts over the course of the 2024-25 campaign. So far, the fan favourite was last game between the Nashville Predators. Oilers Russian forward Vasily Podkolzin dropped the gloves with Pred's blue-liner Jeremy Lauzon. The fight was a good ol' fashion brawl that resembled something out of a late 80's game. Podkolzin ultimately got the better of Lauzon, hitting him right on the button in a decisive knock out blow. The Oilers ultimately blew out the Predators by a score a 5-1.
Tonight, the Oilers are gearing up for a thrilling showdown against the Calgary Flames. The BOA (Battle of Alberta) has been no stranger to spirited tilts over the years, the most notable one being back in 2020 when former Oilers goaltender Mike Smith took on Calgary Flames net minder Cam Talbot in a legendary centre ice goalie fight.
There's no love lost between the Oilers and the Flames, and fans shouldn't be surprised if both teams end up fighting multiple times tonight. As history shows, if a fight does occur, Oilers should be walking out of the Saddledome with a 6-5-1 record.
