Last night presented another huge test, as the Edmonton Oilers looked to make it two straight victories without Connor McDavid in the lineup. Just 20 seconds into the the game, Oilers Leon Draisaitl scored the 7th fastest opening goal in Battle of Alberta history.
He would eventually notch another 2 assists to help the Oilers extinguish the Calgary Flames by a score of 4-2.
After the game, Kris Knoblauch made himself available for the usual post game interviews. The Oilers head coach took time to express the significance of Draisaitl's contributions to the team, acknowledging his abilities to step up for the Oilers so far.
Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists for the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-2 win over the host Calgary Flames on Sunday. Zach Hyman, Jeff Skinner and Mattias Janmark, with the empty-netter, scored for the Oilers (6-5-1), who won their fourth game in their last five and their second straight since captain and NHL star Connor McDavid was sidelined with an ankle injury.
Edmonton's goalie Stuart Skinner stopped 28 shots for the win.
With that crucial win over the Calgary Flames, Leon Draisaitl has tallied 6 points in just 2 games - all without the help of the Oilers captain.
With that being said, I think this is Leon's way of reminding the NHL he's pretty good at hockey...and he has the ability to get the job done without the worlds best player at his side.
