Although Drake Caggiula had a decent run during his short call-up, this move was expected as the Oilers prepare for two significant roster moves in the near future.
With Caggiula off the NHL roster, the Oilers are able to place Evander Kane back on the active roster to accrue daily cap space. Edmonton had to move Kane to the LTIR to get reinforcements for Connor McDavid's injury, but now will be able to resume their season-long strategy to maximize their cap flexibility.

Hockey insider Kevin Weekes recently reported that Evander Kane is way ahead of schedule regarding his rehabilitation. With that being said, Weekes reports that Kane is anticipated to hit the ice in early 2025.
These latest reports also indicate a silver lining for Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, who admits to being day-to-day regarding his ankle injury. Tom Gazzola suggested that Connor McDavid could be in the Oilers lineup as soon as Saturday when the team takes on the Vancouver Canucks.
With Connor McDavid back from injury, the Oilers will have to make a decision regarding Oilers prospect Noah Philp, who's been impressing Oilers enthusiasts with his solid play since being re-called from the Condors.
