Oilers stars clear up comments about Blues offer sheets

Oilers superstars Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid set the record straight regarding comments made by St. Louis Blues Robert Thomas.

The former Edmonton Oilers studs Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway were recently sent packing to St. Louis as both players signed offer sheets, parting ways with the Oilers.

According to The Hockey News, Robert Thomas was eating lunch with three members of the Oilers when news broke the St. Louis Blues signed offer sheets to Edmonton's Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.

«It was pretty funny,» the Blues center said on Tuesday during this week's NHL/NHLPA Player Media Tour in Las Vegas. «I was with (Connor) McDavid, (Leon) Draisaitl and (Zach) Hyman. We were having lunch after training. I was sitting there eating, and I guess it popped up on one of their phones. Yeah, they weren't too happy about it,»

During a recent interview in Las Vegas, Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl wanted to clear the air about the situation, hinting that there were no hard feelings or tension when the news broke out. On Wednesday, the Oilers attending media day set the record straight.

«I think we're all professional enough to understand,» said Draisaitl, who added Thomas' account of how the news played out may not have been completely accurate. «Connor and I weren't sitting there, pouting like little babies. Let's be real, here.»

Added McDavid: «He said we were angry or something like that? It was more surprise.»

St. Louis Blues forward Robert Thomas has caused quite the added drama regarding the offer sheet situation. It's nice to see there wasn't any bad blood between the players - business, is business, and the Oilers stars made that clear.

According to Tristin McKinstry of Clutch Points, Both Broberg and Holloway could earn major roles with the Blues. And they could prove that Armstrong's overpayment was well worth the investment. They figure to make their St. Louis debut when the team opens its season against the Seattle Kraken on October 8.
