Edmonton Oilers assistant coach Paul Coffey has been confirmed to return as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 season.

During the latest segment of the Oil Stream with Dustin Nielson and Tom Gazzola, both insiders have confirmed that Paul Coffey will be returning as an assistant bench boss next season.

Paul Coffey joined the coaching staff after the demise former head coach Jay Woodcroft. After Coffey joined, his impact on the team was almost instant. The Oilers energy completely transformed, as did the play of star defenceman Evan Bouchard.

«It does sound like he will be back behind the bench next season,» Gazzola reported.

As per Zach Laing from Oilers Nation, The Oilers blue line played confident hockey under Coffey, who urged the defencemen to not shy away from making plays, and moving the puck up the ice. He also wasn't shy about mixing up the pairings when needed, saying that communicating with the players was a key to its success.

«I enjoyed it. The defence is awesome, they're all good. Were there ups and downs in player's games? Absolutely. As a coach you have to be there for them, good or bad. I think they enjoyed a different approach,» Coffey told Matheson.

This is great news for Oilers enthusiasts who were hoping Coffey would return for 2024-25 campaign. Coffey was a huge catalyst for the Oilers success last season and will be pushing the team towards another Stanley Cup run.
