It was recently announced that the Chicago Blackhawks have named Nick Foligno as the 35th captain in franchise history.

According to the NHL, The Chicago Blackhawks today announced forward Nick Foligno as the team's next captain. Foligno becomes the 35th team captain in Blackhawks franchise history and the first since Jonathan Toews (2008-2023).

«In a very short amount of time, Nick has quickly earned the respect of his teammates and our staff,» said Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson. «Nick's commanding presence in the locker room has been instrumental in helping the team find its identity."

With that being said, many fans are questioning Davidson's decision, with the debate being that Connor Bedard should have been named captain instead. Although i'm sure Bedard will be named captain at some point, giving Bedard the "C" could have been a strategic move to cement his legacy in Chicago.

The NHL is no stranger to younger captains. Take Connor McDavid for example, in just his second season, his captaincy was announced at the age 19, making him one of the youngest captains in NHL history at that time.

In my opinion, Bedard should be the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. He's the franchise player, and Davidson should be making every effort to build around him.
