The Edmonton Oilers took a hit to their defensive core over the NHL offseason, losing their top defensive prospect to the St. Louis Blues via offer sheet.
With that being said, the former Oilers blue-liner has been having an all-star start to the 2024-25 campaign, notching 9 points through 11 regular season games. Broberg, who is no stranger to knee injuries will unfortunately be sidelined for an indefinite amount of time - a devastating blow to the St. Louis Blues.
Amidst the chaos for the Blues, a prominent online sports doctor has predicted some potentially disastrous timelines for return. Sports Doctor Harjan Grewal of the University of British Columbia comments on many NHL injuries, and has made some grim predictions for Broberg.
According to Grewal, there is a possibility of structural damage with a torn ACL, MCL, or Meniscus. The recovery timelines for those injuries range from 1 month to 5 months or more.
This prognosis from Dr. Harjan Grewal confirms the worst case scenario for the St. Louis Blues. Currently sitting at 19th overall in the NHL standings with a. 6-6-0 record, one can only assume the Blues will struggle to maintain their current pace without Broberg in the lineup.
Oilers Hall of Fame reporter Jim Matheson also took to X (formally known as twitter) emphasizing the severity of the situation, stating that Broberg's knee took the brunt of the collision.
Blues Stanley Cup winning goaltender commented on the situation, wishing the best for their young blue-liner:
Oilers Insider will be keeping close tabs on the situation pending an official announcement from the St. Louis Blues organization.
