Let's get real, I like Stuart Skinner as a person, his play between the pipes has been far from reliable. Sure, he brought the team to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals last season, but that reason alone shouldn't make you a lock as the A1 goalie.
As much as I'd like to see an Oilers campaign where Stuart Skinner steals crucial games for the team, the Oil rely far too often on the skill of their offence. Fans have often witnessed situations where the team needs to score 5+ goals to win a game, and that is no longer sustainable.
According to Bill Scott of NHL Trade Rumor, A recent development has the Oilers potentially claiming Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso off waivers. This unexpected move could signal a major shakeup in Edmonton's crease.
To accommodate Husso's contract, a trade seems inevitable. One possibility involves moving defenseman Brett Kulak to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for veteran Jack Johnson. This swap would free up the necessary cap space to bring Husso on board.
As harsh as this may sound, anything would be an upgrade from Stuart Skinner right now. If this downward trend continues for the Oilers, sources indicate that Detroit Red Wings Ville Husso might be the option for GM Stan Bowman moving forward. As it stands, Stuart Skinner's job is in serious jeopardy and the team is struggling to play confidently in front of him.
Although Husso was just placed on waivers, surely it can't get any worse at this point?
