Yesterday, a trade pitch emerged sending Dante Fabbro to the Oilers in exchange for Max Wanner.

Fabbro is heading into the last year of his contract and will be a UFA in 2025-26. Wanner on the other hand, is entering just the second year of his ELC and remains one of the youngest prospects in the Oilers farm system.

Jason Gregor, a highly respected hockey insider for the Edmonton Oilers chimed in on the wild trade pitch. Here's what Gregor had to say:

This rumour makes zero sense for Edmonton. Fabbro is six feet tall. He isn't elite offensively and not a tower defensively. From a pure player-for-player trade, I see little reason why Edmonton would entertain this move. Wanner is still very raw, but he's a great skater, stands 6'3″, and plays physical. He needs to improve his puck skills to be a regular in the NHL, but he has time to work on that.

I would be floored if the Oilers made this deal. In fact, I don't think it has ever been discussed at a serious level within the organization. If it was brought up, it should have been a very short conversation that ended with a «not interested.»

Jason Gregor did not hold back in his comments regarding acquiring Dante Fabbro. Gregor, who is usually always correct in these matters feels the deal would not be worthwhile for the Edmonton Oilers.

Fabbro currently makes $2.5 million AAV and has one year remaining in Nashville. The Oilers should definitely look elsewhere if they want to bring in a depth blue-liner. Fabbro is too small, and too inconsistent for the team to even consider this option moving forward.
