Video emerges of Leon Draisaitl accepting team award after being benched
A hilarious video has emerged on X (formally known as twitter) of Leon Draisaitl accepting a team award after reportedly being benched.
It's no secret by now that the Edmonton Oilers start to the season has been one of the worst one's in franchise history. The Edmonton Oilers played the Philadelphia Flyers for their fourth outing of the season, and superstar Leon Draisiatl had been struggling to play up to head coach Kris Knoblauch's standards.
With just 1 point over the course of 3 regular season games, there was a moment during the match where Leon Draisaitl appeared to be benched. Prior to the benching, Draisaitl not only had a few shifts where he appeared sluggish, but also took a very costly cross-checking penalty late in the second period. This resulted in Kris Knoblauch sending a big message to the superstar, and Leon responded in a big way, scoring the overtime winner and notching 2 points.
A new video has surfaced on social media, where head coach Kris Knoblauch gave out the traditional post game team awards. After Troy Stetcher received the hard hart for his stellar defensive performance, Kris Knoblauch sheepishly approached Draisaitl, giving him the belt for performer of the night.

After receiving the award, Leon's face was absolutely priceless. Although the team appeared amused by the situation, you could tell Leon Draisaitl was still somewhat displeasured by the whole ordeal. Being the team's superstar, you can understand how being benched his something you'd take extremely personally. Although head coach Kris Knoblauch was potentially trying to make amends for benching Draisaitl, it was clearly an effective tactic which generated results.
