What does Adam Henrique need to do to be successful this season?
Adam Henrique has options during the NHL offseason, but ultimately decided to stay loyal to the Oil.
Heading into the highly anticipated 2024-25 season, Adam Henrique is hoping to be just more than your average bottom 6 player. Is what recently announced that Henrique has been promoted to a larger role with the Oilers PK, and will be looking increase his overall production.
According to Oilers Nation, The Oilers finished the 2023-24 regular season with a 79.46% success rate on the penalty kill and put on an absolute clinic in the playoffs, killing off an impressive 94.29% of their penalties, with Henrique playing the seventh-most minutes among forwards (19:01 minutes).
With the departures of McLeod and Warren Foegele, who played big minutes on the PK last season, Henrique should get an increase in ice time on the unit. The 34-year-old doesn't have the wheels that McLeod showed during his time in Oil Country, so he'll have to use his smarts and veteran instincts-like anticipating plays and having an active stick-to be effective on the PK, which he showed during his stint with the Oilers last season Although Henrique got some time on the PK last season, his role was was minimal, but effective. Last season, Henrique won 60% of his face off's on the penalty kill - an area of success he will need to duplicate.
If Henrique can manage to play big minutes on the PK while maintaining his level of success in the face off circle, the 34 year old will be regarded as one of the biggest breakout candidates on the squad.
