Matty Beniers surpasses Stuart Skinner for 2023 Calder Trophy race.
The prestigious honor of being nominated for the 2023 Calder Trophy (Rookie of the Year) went to Matty Beniers.
The news is surprising since the favorite was Stuart Skinner of the Edmonton Oilers.
Beniers was the author of 7 goals in 33 games after the all-star game, which seems to have been enough to stand out for the Calder.
Still, it seems surprising that Skinner's performance in net for the Oilers in the playoff chase wasn't enough to win the race.
We can easily understand the disappointment of Skinner and his supporters. However, we cannot deny the very high quality of his game.
