The fate of the Ottawa Senators' bid has taken a perplexing turn, leaving us uncertain about whether it's a step forward or backward for the team.
The news is disheartening, especially considering the tremendous potential for marketability that Ottawa seemed to possess.
The Remington Group and Ryan Reynolds, who had thrown their support behind the Melnyk-owned team, have officially withdrawn from the running. Unfortunately, an official explanation for their decision has not been provided.
This turn of events is particularly disappointing because it means the anticipated redevelopment of Canadian Tire Centre and the construction of a new downtown arena have now been abandoned.
The intentions of the NHL, Gary Bettman, and the city of Ottawa regarding new ownership are unclear. However, it's evident that Reynolds' ownership group is not part of their plans.
It's regrettable that another opportunity to enhance the team's marketability with Reynolds' ownership group has been squandered due to a lack of foresight, which seems to be a consequence of rigid adherence to traditional methods.
