The NHL trade mill is buzzing again, and this time it's former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Adam Larsson who's at the center of speculation.

According to rumors, Larsson is in talks for a potential move to the Toronto Maple Leafs, a team that has openly committed to beefing up its roster. The news, first hinted at on social media with a post that can be viewed here

Aligns with Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving's earlier declarations of not being done with strengthening the team.

Over the past offseason, the Leafs' management made significant strides in shoring up what many consider their Achilles' heel-defense. With the acquisition of players like Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson (details can be found below).

Toronto's defensive line has seen notable enhancements. The addition of Adam Larsson would not only fortify this line further but could also mean reassigning or releasing other players, including Timothy Liljegren and possibly Nick Robertson, who has expressed a desire for a trade.

Larsson, a seasoned defenseman, has a history that would make any NHL team interested. His journey with the Oilers was marked by an initial controversy when he was traded from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Taylor Hall. This trade, a direct swap, was heavily criticized at the time but eventually saw Larsson forming a strong defensive pairing with Oscar Klefbom. His complete stats and contributions during his tenure with the Oilers can be reviewed here :

After being selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 expansion draft, Larsson spent three seasons with the Kraken, with his peak performance in 2022. That year, he played all 82 games, contributing significantly to the team's defense and tallying up 33 points. His performance details for that season are captured here

As discussions potentially progress between the Leafs' Brad Treliving and Kraken's Ron Francis, the anticipation builds on whether this deal will come to fruition. Larsson, known for his defensive prowess and right-hand shooting, is precisely the kind of player the Leafs need to solidify their back end further. At 31, his experience and skills could be pivotal for Toronto as they continue to refine their team dynamics and aim for greater competitive edge in the league.
