In the world of NHL hockey, the cost of cheering on your favorite team in person can vary dramatically from city to city.

A recent report from Action Network has laid out a detailed comparison of what it costs for a family of four to enjoy a game across the various arenas. The expense of attending includes not just the tickets but also the quintessential game day experiences like snacks, drinks, and parking.

Topping the list as the most budget-friendly arena was the now-vacant Mullet Arena, previously home to the Arizona Coyotes. Following in affordability were the Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres, and Columbus Blue Jackets. Remarkably, a visit to see the Panthers could let a family enjoy the excitement for just $298.

Conversely, the prestigious Toronto Maple Leafs demand a premium, costing families $300 more than any other team-an eye-watering total of $970 to catch a game. Not far behind in terms of cost are the Vegas Golden Knights, New York Rangers, Nashville Predators, and Boston Bruins, all known for their fervent fanbases and vibrant game day atmospheres.

Interestingly, the Edmonton Oilers find themselves in a unique position. Despite being the seventh most valuable franchise in the NHL and enjoying a surge in fan support, they're ranked as the 17th most expensive, making them more affordable than half of the league. A family outing at an Oilers game is pegged at about $403, which is roughly 6.5% below the league's average cost.

This pricing strategy by the Oilers might be influenced by their smaller market size but doesn't overlook their recent success and the intense loyalty of their fanbase. While the playoffs may see a spike in ticket prices, it's heartening to see the team maintain a position that still allows a wider range of fans to partake in the live action. Hopefully, they will continue to offer this balance, fostering both growth and accessibility.

As the NHL evolves, the experience of attending a game remains a cherished tradition for many. The Action Network's rankings provide a crucial insight into how teams manage the delicate balance between maintaining enthusiastic home support and ensuring their games are accessible to families. For fans around the league, knowing where your team stands in this balance might just influence your next game day plans.
