The Toronto Maple Leafs organization continues to value the grit and experience of Kyle Clifford, the 2014 Stanley Cup winner, by re-signing him to an AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies.

This decision underscores Clifford's ongoing role within the team's structure, particularly with the Marlies, where he's poised to begin his fourth season.

Clifford will be back for a fourth season with the Toronto Marlies as the Leafs have re-signed him to an AHL deal,

the team announced. His presence in the AHL aligns with the team's strategy of fostering a robust development environment for their prospects. Despite playing in just two NHL games since his suspension during the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs for boarding then-Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ross Colton, Clifford's impact at the AHL level remains significant.

The veteran enforcer's tenure with the Marlies has been notable not just for his play on the ice but also for his leadership off it. Last season, he contributed 10 goals and 28 points in 53 games, alongside a staggering 140 penalty minutes and a three-game suspension, reflecting his enforcer role. His on-ice actions continue to stir discussions, as seen in his controversial suspension, which was extensively covered

three-game suspension

Originally acquired from the Los Angeles Kings in the Jack Campbell trade in February 2020, and re-acquired from the St. Louis Blues in November 2021, Clifford's journey reflects the Leafs' belief in his dual capability to perform and mentor. His career statistics are a testament to his durability and style of play, with 753 NHL games under his belt, amassing 66 goals, 144 points, and 905 penalty minutes since his debut in the 2010-2011 season with the LA Kings, where he also clinched his Stanley Cup victory.

The re-signing of Kyle Clifford is more than just a routine transaction for the Marliesit's a strategic move, signalling the Leafs' commitment to blending seasoned leadership with raw, emerging talent, setting a sturdy foundation for their future stars.
