Toronto Maple Leafs fans were elated on Saturday night as their beloved team advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2004. Thrilled fans took to the streets of Downtown Toronto to celebrate, causing traffic disruptions and delays to buses and streetcars.
Unfortunately, amidst the celebrations, one overzealous fan took things too far. As reported by CP24, Toronto Police arrested a man on Saturday night for public intoxication and for slapping a police horse on its hind legs. The fan was taken into custody and later released after sobering up, having received a Provincial Offence Notice.
While it's great to revel in the success of your favorite team, it's important to remember to stay within reasonable limits and avoid doing something you might regret later. There is no excuse for any kind of violence, even if it's against a police animal.
Looking ahead, the Maple Leafs will face off against the Florida Panthers in the second round series, which will kick off at the Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET. Toronto fans will be hoping for another win and a clean, safe celebration.
