In a recent game, former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ethan Bear found himself on the receiving end of some punches after breaking hockey's unwritten 'code' by taking a hard whack at his opposing goaltender's hand when he covered the puck.
Bear, who was playing more like a forward than a defenseman, took a shot on goal and followed up with the nasty whack, prompting Seattle Kraken defenseman Will Borgen to take action. Borgen tracked down Bear and engaged in a fight, ultimately ending with Bear being taken down to the ice. The incident, which can be seen below:
It highlights the importance of defending and building confidence in your goaltender by making it clear to the opposing team that such actions will not be tolerated.
