According to the hockey news, Alex Chiasson was invited to the Detroit Red Wings training camp on a PTO. The veteran winger hasn't played in a year, last playing for the aforementioned Red Wings in the 2022-23 season.
Chiasson spent three seasons with the Oilers between 2018 and 2021, and actually had a career-best 22 goal season with Edmonton. The 6'4 winger had the ability to play physical and score goals around the front of the net, but consistency was always an issue for him.
Chiasson announced his retirement after remaining unsigned last last season. With a sudden change of heart, he spent the summer getting back into shape with hopes of keeping his NHL career alive. The Red Wings offered Chiasson a PTO and made it three quarters through camp, but his time on the team has unfortunately come to end.
It's unclear wether Chiasson will look for another opportunity elsewhere, but as it stands, the former Oiler remains unemployed. Oilers Insider wishes the best of luck to Chiasson wherever he may end up.
