Breaking news out of Ottawa as forward Alex Formenton has retired from hockey at the age of 24.

This comes as no surprise to NHL fans as Formenton was one out of the 5 players dealing with sexual assault charges dating back to 2018. Although its an extremely sensitive topic for many people, his actions have ultimately lead him to being disgraced and banished from hockey in North America for the time being.

According to court documents obtained by the CBC, Formenton has "moved on from a hockey career" and now works full time in construction. He's receiving "ongoing training in the operation of heavy equipment as well as the administration aspects of his new trade."

Formenton, Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote, Michael McLeod, and Carter Hart all face sexual assault charges in connection with an alleged group sexual assault of a woman in a player's hotel room following a Hockey Canada gala and golf event in 2018.

Formenton was Ottawa's second-round draft pick in 2017, played 109 games for the Sens. Known for his agility and speed, Formenton has been reported as "the fastest skater" in club history.

Lawyers have indicated all five players will plead not guilty at their trial, which begins one year from now in September 2025.
