Well, it's official now. Many analysts saw this coming from a mile away, and now Oilers enthusiasts can breathe a huge sigh of relief. Top prospect Raphael Lavoie is once again part of the Oilers organization.
It was announced on Monday that Raphael Lavoie and Cole Schwindt were picked up off waivers by the Las Vegas Golden Knights from Edmonton, sending shockwaves down the NHL. Sources indicate that the Golden Knights were rather surprised they managed to scoop up two elite prospect off waivers, and the team had to make a strategic choice between Schwindt and Lavoie.
In a split decision, the Golden Knights favoured Cole Schwindt, resulting in Raphael Lavoie being placed back on the waiver wire.
Edmonton decided to start the season with Corey Perry as the team's fourth-line right winger. Now, the team can send Lavoie down to the AHL without waivers as they have successfully reclaimed him back from the Golden Knights. After a few days of volatility, the team can finally move on from this disastrous situation unscathed with their top prospect back home safe.
The Oilers have been getting their depth players picked apart by vultures all offseason long. Losing Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to the St. Louis Blues via offer sheets was bad enough, but having their top prospect snatched off waivers poured salt in the wound. It's nice to see that team made things right by reclaiming their stolen goods, and Lavoie can continue his development in the Oilers farm system. All-in-all, it's a great day for the Oilers fanbase.
