In his postgame interview, Corey Perry urged his teammates to take accountability by saying they need to «look in the mirror» ahead of their upcoming game against the Calgary Flames. His comments show frustration within the Oilers organization as they struggle their offensive at the beginning of the season.
Corey Perry emphasized that the Oilers must make the hard plays to achieve the desired results and especially given the importance of early-season points in securing playoff positioning. His message was the same of what Oilers captain Connor McDavid said after the team's first game. Following a blowout shutout loss in their home opener, Connor McDavid called on the Oilers' leadership group to step up. However, despite days of practice and preparation, the Oilers managed only two goals against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Fans are starting to feel a sense of déjà vu since it happened last year with fear that the team could repeat last season's dismal 2-9-1 start. Until the Oilers can string together wins, those worries will remain. The team has another chance to right the ship tonight against the Flames but the back-to-back game schedule and Calgary's strong start could present a tough challenge for them.
Stuart Skinner will be back in the net for the Oilers.
