Nazem Kadri's recent revelation in his book "Dreamer" sheds light on his decision to return to Canada after turning down offers from several American teams including the New York Islanders, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings.

After being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the 2009 NHL Draft, Nazem Kadri spent 10 years with the team before moving on to the Colorado Avalanche where he won a Stanley Cup.

In 2022, Kadri signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Calgary Flames and this move reflects his strong ties to Canada, with his father being a passionate Montreal Canadiens fan.

Despite his loyalty to the Flames, some rumors are persisting about Kadri potentially becoming a trade target by an other Canadian team. The Flames are currently navigating some modifications or even a full rebuild, and Kadri could be an attractive piece for a Stanley Cup contender like the Oilers. However, moving him would be challenging because of his $7 million cap and the fact that he still has four years remaining on his contract. Additionally, Calgary would likely need to retain a significant portion of his salary to make any deal viable which could be a tough decision for the team.

As the Flames enjoy an unexpectedly strong start to the season and currently sit at the top of the Pacific Division, it remains to be seen whether Kadri will stay with the team or if a move to another franchise could be on the line.
