Craig Button praises Ty Emberson
TSN's renowned hockey insider Craig Button went on another one of his rants, but this time, he had some high praise for an Edmonton Oilers defenceman.
"He is an outstanding competitor. He dives into the hard areas of the game and doesn't make it easy for the opposition. Oilers learned last year that every play matters, and he will help there," Said Button.
The Edmonton Oilers are putting a lot of pressure on newcomer Ty Emberson. Emberson has emerged as the best option for Darnell Nurse's defensive partner, as well as being rumoured to be getting some time on the Oilers power play. With the departure of Vinny Desharnais, Philip Broberg, and Cody Ceci, the Oilers absolutely need Emberson to step up.
"As per Frank Seravalli, If you dig into the numbers, Emberson actually posted a strong rookie season with the Sharks in limited showing. Aside from the shots he's averaged per game, Emberson makes a good first pass - which should be priority No. 1 for any Edmonton blueliner with the forwards on their roster. Emberson may not be a household name, but he played for Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch two seasons ago in AHL Hartford. This is a player Knoblauch knows and trusts. It's a tall task to replace Cody Ceci and Philip Broberg in one shot, but Emberson is up to the task."
According to David Staples, Emberson looked sharp on his first shift, moving the puck well. He won an n-zone battle to send in Podkolzin for a shot in the first. Put a shot on net early in the second that Arvidsson almost cashed in off the rebound.
The Oilers will be relying heavily on Emberson to make a statement early on in the regular season. There has been some conversation as of late regarding the Oilers bringing another depth D-man from the waiver wire, but that might not be necessary if Emberson rises to the occasion.
