Led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers entered the season as one of the favorites and they sill are among the favorites. Even they have some struggle this season to find the path to win, the team made critical additions this offseason that keep them on the map for the Staley Cup. Another valuable pickup is Vasily Podkolzin who is a young power forward who adds depth and physicality to the Oilers' lineup.
What makes Edmonton Oilers dangerous is the unparalleled chemistry between Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl who is widely regarded as the best offensive duo in the NHL. With Evan Bouchard as a Norris Trophy candidate and alongside Mattias Ekholm, the Oilers' defense has a solid foundation. Evan Bouchard's ability to contribute at both ends of the ice is crucial to the Oilers' chances and particularly after his historic playoff run last season.
Goaltending has been an area of improvement as well with Stuart Skinner who performed well in last season's playoffs. He is expected to regain form after a difficult start while Calvin Pickard has shown promise as a dependable backup.
With a talented core and improved goaltending, the Oilers are still built for a deep playoff run. Their poor start could serve as an early wake-up call, but with Connor McDavid an experienced roster they should be alright and be able to step up as a team.
