Ty Emberson who was traded from the San Jose Sharks was initially expected to make a significant impact on the team's blue line.

Hopes were that he could potentially fill a top-four role on defense right this year. However Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch has adjusted his expectations for the young defenseman.

According to Alan Mitchell of The Athletic, Kris Knoblauch and his coaching staff have reseen their plans for Emberson. At first he was a candidate for the second pairing and has now been relegated to the third pairing with a reduced ice time of around 10 minutes per game.

It's clear coach Knoblauch was less confident in Emberson than his other five blueliners. Where does that put the young defenceman? Sixth or seventh, a far cry from the preseason talk of the second pairing.

The decision not to rush Emberson into a more prominent role appears to be a protective measure for both his development and the team's success. Too much pressure on a young defenseman too soon could lead to regression and even cause him to become a liability on the ice and this is not what they want. Troy Stecher has stepped into the role that Ty Emberson was initially expected to fill and it is providing the Oilers with a more experienced option in crucial minutes.

Ty Emberson's future with the Oilers remains promising but the organization recognizes the importance of helping him in his development. The Oilers are also working to overcome a rocky start to their season that began with three consecutive losses.

Their recent overtime win against the Philadelphia Flyers provides hope as they prepare to face the Nashville Predators and are aiming to build momentum moving forward.
