Sportsnet has recently revealed their 2024-25 NHL power rankings, and the Edmonton Oilers find themselves at the top of the list.

The Oilers are entering arguably one of the most highly anticipated regular seasons yet. Making it all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup final last year, the Oil have their eyes set on replicating their previous success from last season

Sportsnet has now ranked the Oilers as the favourite to win the Stanley Cup, and the Oil rank #1 on the power ranking list.

According to sportsnet, combine the hunger of coming so close to the Stanley Cup with - on balance - a pretty solid off-season, and you get a recipe for wins. We're still more intrigued by the adds of Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson than we are concerned over the loss of Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway.

And, obviously, the Leon Draisaitl extension is, perhaps, the best news of the summer because it not only means he isn't going anywhere, but basically removes all doubt Connor McDavid will follow suit with a monster extension in about 10 months.

The second ranked team heading into the season is the Dallas Stars, followed by the New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, and New Jersey Devils to round out the top five. The Toronto Maple Leafs ranked 8th, and the Vancouver Canucks ranked 9th for other Canadian teams in the top ten.

As per Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, So many major analysts have the Edmonton Oilers pegged as the top NHL team heading into next season. Fans should be pumped for the upcoming year and hopefully, another long run in spring.
