Jason Gregor, a prominent Oilers insider has revealed on X (formally known as twitter) that head coach Kris Knoblauch has cleared Darnell Nurse to play.

He has been cleared, he can play,» Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch said when asked about the medical status of defenseman Darnell Nurse. Knoblauch added. «He's been participating in every single drill, and has been physical, he feels well.»

According to the Edmonton Journal, After sitting out the first six exhibition games to rest an undisclosed injury, Nurse can finally start making up for lost time. Not that he feels he missed much time.

«The only thing I'm missing is a couple of games,» said the nine-year veteran, who's been taking part in all of the training camp practices, just not the games.

«I've got a lot of skates in, a lot of work in. I don't feel like I've missed anything. From the sheer volume of being on the ice, getting out there early, staying on a little bit longer. I feel like I've maximized that.»

«The game part, it's always nice to get into a couple of those before the start of the season,» admitted Nurse. «But it's not the be-all and end-all. That's not the way anyone sees it. At the end of the day the objective is to be 100 per cent when the season opens up. It's on me to be prepared mentally and physically when that happens.»

Darnell Nurse has been sidelined for the entire preseason so far - rehabilitating lingering injuries suffered throughout the 2024 post season. Although Knoblauch gave no clear indication wether or not Nurse will slot in for at least one preseason game, sources speculate that Nurse will be playing against the Vancouver Canucks on October 4th.

This is great news for the Oilers as they have been waiting patiently for an injury update on Nurse - and Knoblauch has finally given him the green light. Darnell Nurse will be good to go for the home opener on October 9th against the Winnipeg Jets.
