Last week, Leon Draisaitl signed a 8 year monster deal worth $14 Million dollars AAV, the first step in their strategic new 16-14-10 plan.

What is the 16-14-10 plan?
Bob Stauffer of Oilers reported would sign Connor McDavid on a new deal for $16 million per year, Draisaitl for $14 million per and Evan Bouchard for $10 million per. If the Oilers are sitting in their office with (hockey boss) Jeff Jackson's big board that he has up there, I think the numbers are really close to that. The cap is also going to be $100 million then.»

The 16-14-10 plan, (which is quite brilliant if I may add) are strategic steps the Oilers will make to ensure the long term success of the club. Last week marked a significant milestone in achieving the first steps of this financial master plan. The other 16-10 are McDavid's and Bouchard's projected contract figures when they are set to re-sign in 2025-25.

Seravalli clearly said this was his projection, but he's a top NHL insider and doesn't make things up. He hears things on good authority from credible sources and reports them without attribution. I take this highly specific 16-14-10 nugget as an example of that process. We'll soon enough see if the other two contracts align as well. I now expect that to be the case, unless McDavid decides to take a major hit for the team's sake and match Draisaitl's contract.

With Leon being the first part of the plan being locked down, fans are eagerly awaiting to see if McDavid and Bouchard will follow suit. It will be very interesting to see how everything plays out.
