The Edmonton Oilers are finding themselves absolutely stacked this year. Among the Oilers who have currently made the top 50 list are Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Evan Bouchard, and Zach Hyman.
Evan Bouchard has rapidly climbed the ranks as one of the elite defenders in the game of hockey. He's always been known to have a heavy shot, but last year, Bouchard took his game to a new level.
The Oilers selected Bouchard with the No. 10 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and signed him to a three-year, entry-level contract on July 17, 2018. He became the youngest defenseman in Oilers history to score a goal in a 4-1 win against the Washington Capitals on Oct. 25 after turning 19 five days before the game.
Oilers enthusiasts saw his game completely transform after the the team hired Paul Coffey as their assistant bench boss behind Kris Knoblacuh. Coffey, who encourages an offensive style of game, rubbed off on Bouchard on the best way possible.
Last season, Bouchard helped the Oilers reach game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. Falling just short, Bouchard will aim to carry over his momentum from last year into the 2024-25 season.
In addition to his impressive top 50 ranking, the NHL has ranked Evan Bouchard 13th overall out of all the blue-liners in the league. I think it's safe to say the Oilers are glad "Bouch Bomb" is on their team.
Last season Evan Bouchard notched an impressive 89 points, surpassing a point per game. Evan Bouchard is up for a contract extension in 2025-26 and has earned himself a massive increase in pay. His next rumoured contracted is expected to exceed $10 MM dollars AAV per season.
