Former Edmonton Oilers forward Riley Sheahan has officially retired from professional hockey as reported by BP Sports Niagara.

After an NHL career of 637 games with multiple teams including the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Seattle Kraken and Buffalo Sabres, Riley Sheahan is now turning his attention to coaching and player development instead of being a player.

During his time in the NHL, Riley Sheahan was known as a reliable and defensive-minded forward who was really good in both zone. He had his most productive seasons early on with the Red Wings who drafted him 21st overall in 2010 and later, he had notable moments such as scoring the first goal in Seattle Kraken franchise history. His final professional season in 2022-23 saw him split time between the Buffalo Sabres, their AHL affiliate the Rochester Americans and EHC Biel-Bienne in Switzerland's National League.

Riley Sheahan is now finding fulfillment in helping young players as he works with the Niagara North Stars where he provides on-ice instruction and mentorship once a week. While doing his new role, Sheahan said:

"I've kind of wanted to get back into coaching... It's cool to see kids working their way to achieving their dreams, and I'd like to help."

His post-hockey journey shows his passion for the game and his desire to give back to the next generation of players by helping them pursue their dreams just as he did.
