As per Oilers Daily, The Edmonton Oilers traded Michael Kesselring in March of last season to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for centreman Nick Bjugstad. Kesselring was a late round draft pick of the Oilers and potentially a long shot to make the team, but quickly in Arizona and Utah he's developed into a reliable defender.
Zdeno Chara remains at the top for the hardest shot ever recorded at 108.8 miles per hour in 2012. Kesselring's shot of 103.77 would be the fourth hardest shot recorded. But it's important to note the difference between an NHL skills competition and actual game play. During skills competitions, players get a running start at a standstill puck, but Kesselring did this during realtime, making the feat far more impressive.
Now, Kesselring is playing top minutes with 3 time Stanley Cup Champion Mikhail Sergachev and has emerged as one of the best blue-liners on Utah HC. One can't help but to feel totally amazed by Kesselring, but slightly bitter at the same time. Oilers have been losing out on top prospects due to questionable moves by management for years, and this is just one more «what if» scenario had the Oilers kept him in the organization.
