Tragic news in Oil Country as the team mourns the loss of former Stanley Cup champion Moe Lemay.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, released a statement on social media today announcing the passing of Stanley Cup Champion, Moe Lemay.

Lemay was a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and passed away at just 62 years old. Drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round of 1981, Lemay went on to play 317 career NHL games before an impressive playing overseas career for over 10 years.

Lemay was never a high end scorer in the NHL, but heading overseas, he was scoring near 100 points in just 30 to 40 games. In the NHL, he played for the Canucks, Oilers, Bruins, and Jets.<\q>

As per Daily Hive, after not finding much team success with Vancouver in the 1980s, Lemay went on to win the Stanley Cup shortly after being traded to the Edmonton Oilers late in the 1986-87 season.

Lemay also played for the Boston Bruins and Winnipeg Jets, before continuing his pro hockey career in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.

Being a Stanley Cup champion in the NHL is definitely something extremely difficult to accomplish. The fact that he did it with names like Wayne Gretzky, Paul Coffey, and Mark Messier make Lemay's endeavour far more special.

Oilers Insider would like to send their deepest sympathies to the Lemay family during this difficult period of time.
