Well, it's official now for Tyson Barrie. The Calgary Flames are rolling the dice on the former Edmonton Oilers blue-liner who was brought in on a PTO.
As per the Hockey News, He was rumoured to be on his way to Calgary at last year's deadline, a deal never materialized and he stayed in Nashville through the end of the season. His name was mentioned as a possibility for the Oilers this offseason before he signed his PTO with Calgary.
The 33-year-old notched two assists in three pre-season games with the Flames en route to earning an NHL contract. He'll add veteran presence and offensive competence that's sorely needed on the Flames' blueline -- The Athletic ranked the right side of Calgary's defence 25th in the league before Barrie's signing.
Now Barrie will be assigned with the tough task of joining a re-building Flames team who arent even projected to be contenders for the post season.
Barrie found quite a bit of success in Oil Country. Although his defensive stats werent terrific, he's an offensive minded blue-liner who can generate quite a bit of points.
