For a career AHLer fighting for a depth role, Philp sure showed some offensive juice on taht goal from Ekholm, beating an NHL defender in Ryker Evans to the net before undressing Philipp Grubauer to tie the game in the first period.
As per Liam McCormick from Oilers Daily, Philp's one year hiatus shocked many throughout the organization and the fan base as he was one of the highest scoring and point getters for the Bakersfield condors. He explained that it was a gut decision that led him to this leave and after a year feels it was the right one.
With the preseason now reaching it's midway point, Philp has emerged as a surprise candidate making a name for himself. Even though he might not make the team, he has earned himself some significant consideration for a midseason call up.
