The Oilers were in desperate need of a boost in morale, and they definitely got it done as the team peppered 50 shots on the Penguins net. Overall, the team impressed, shutting out the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 4-0, improving their season record to 3-4-1.
Arvidsson's assists were his first points as an Oiler, while Vasily Podkolzin also had one for his first point since arriving in Edmonton.
Stuart Skinner has been in the hot seat the past few week due to his poor performance between the pipes, but last night, he looked like Stanley Cup calibre net minder. Skinner is historically the type of goalie who feeds off confidence, and last nights game should give him the swagger needed to improve his save percentage moving forward.
On a positive note, slumping Oilers forward Zach Hyman was finally successful in his pursuit of the 400th point of his career and his first for this season. He assisted Nugent-Hopkins early in the third period. Perhaps this will help steer Hyman in the right direction.
This was the Oilers 7th straight victory against the Penguins, and the team improves to 8-8-3 overall against Pittsburgh in the McDavid/Crosby era.
