According to Finn Marceau of the hockey news, While the Oilers' biggest problem on Saturday was their inability to solve Jake Oettinger, the St. Louis Blues gave Oilers fans another thing to fret about. Philip Broberg -- already off to an excellent start in Missouri -- twisted the knife a little bit with an assist on Dylan Holloway's first goal with their new team.
That's Broberg's sixth point (1G, 5A) in his first six games, with one point in each game. That makes him the ninth defenceman in NHL history to start his tenure with a new team with a six-game point streak.
It's no secret by now that both Oilers prospects were stolen by the St. Louis Blues via offer sheets, but it came with some harsh feelings as well.
Holloway reports that he felt his hand was forced to sign the offer sheet. Clearly, he wanted to remain in Edmonton, but the Oilers were navigating a tight salary cap and were unable to provide a sum hefty enough to convince Dylan to stay. Edmonton knew about the offer sheets in advance, which is why Holloway claims the situation was "weird".
Despite having both Holloway and Broberg gone, it's nice to see both players finding success on their new team. As the Oilers struggles continue to loom over their heads, one can't help but to think how nice it would be to have both these guys back in Oil Country.
