Recently, Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner has been taking quite a heat for his poor performance between the pipes, but the blame is not solely on him.
Now, the team's power play becomes the focal point for panicked Oilers fans across the NHL. The Oilers power play is typically considered the most dynamic special teams unit in the league, but has been ice cold as of late - converting just one PP goal all season.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, With the powerplay a clear point that's hurting the team, perhaps the Oilers should look to make a change to include one of their new offensive weapons on the first unit.
New forward Jeff Skinner has been fantastic in the few games as an Oiler, has plenty of experience on the powerplay, and is a proven scorer in the NHL. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been struggling to start the year, so perhaps he could be moved off the top unit.
Having RNH removed from the Oilers power play has sparked some controversy in Oil Country. Although the PP hasn't been clicking, there is something to be said about changing the chemistry on a record breaking power play.
