According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Winnipeg had a two goal lead entering the second period, then quickly added three more to put the game out of reach. Skinner was beat multiple times on clean shots and being caught out of position, and was pulled from the game 10 minutes into the second period. He allowed 5 goals on only 13 shots, and after the game, Skinner admitted that his play cost the team.
From start to finish, the Oilers looked like they were off by a half-turn on basically everything. Passes were either too short or too long, shots either missed the net or hit Hellebuyck right in the chest, and before the second period was over, Kris Knoblauch had already reunited McDavid and Draisaitl to try and fish for signs of life. Unfortunately, not even our nuclear deterrent was enough to wash away the stink-the boys simply couldn't execute.
It's very clear that the Edmonton oilers are obviously struggling with some sort of Stanley Cup hangover. Although they lost in game 7, the Oilers looked like champions coming off a big summer of partying. Kris Knoblauch better rally his troops if he wants to avoid a 3-9-1 start like Jay Woodcroft did.
