Elite prospects describes Lavoie as a large and skilled player. Offensively, his release stands out which is very accurate and allows him to be a capable scorer. Furthermore, Lavoie reads the game fairly well and is good at distributing the puck.
It's no secret that the Oilers are arguably the most top heavy offensive team in the NHL. It was recently announced today that Evander Kane will likely be failing his physical examination, with surgical intervention for a sports hernia now imminent. Although Kane being on LTIR hurts the team offensively, it presents new opportunities for elite prospects within the oilers farm system.
Oilers players have been getting onto the ice as training camp is set to open within the next week and during the scrimmage with Connor McDavid, Lavoie will continue to make his case that he should remain with the Oilers as he worked well with McDavid.
Jason Gregor reported that Lavoie impressed during the first day of training camp and showed some chemistry with some of the Oilers most talented players. With the new open holes on the Oilers roster, Lavoie is slowly building a strong case for himself to play alongside McDavid at some point this season.
